[Hepper (1976) p. 114:] "The bark of the root is sometimes used for application to old leg injuries. The tree and leaves are often used as a fetish in cases of illness; a branch 1½ ells in length is cut off; the bark is scraped off; smeared over with white clay-soil; one end is enwound with bast-rope which is smeared with a red kind of soil; the other end is inserted in the earth in a definite place ordered by the fetish priest or the doctor; usually at a cross road; often an egg or other trifle is laid with it and often several such sticks are set from time to time when the illness will not give way. The leaves are put into cold water with which the sick person is washed; after which the water is thrown out on the ground at the inserted stick. Th."
